Wood Stove Exchange and Workshop

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen are offering rebates starting March 1st for municipal and regional residents of the RDOS.

The $250 rebate will apply when you replace and render unusable your old wood stove or wood insert with a new EPA/CSA emission approved wood, gas, pellet, or electric appliance.

The offer is only good for the first 60 exchanges they receive and will run until April 30th, 2012.

Participating retailers are also offering discounts of $150 or more on the appliances.

Wood burning in the Okanagan contributes to particulate matter in the air which leads to poor air quality and can have serious health impacts.

New EPA wood stoves will reduce smoke pollution by 90% and use one third less wood as well.

The RDOS will also be holding a wood heating workshop in Princeton on March 1st at the Community Skills Centre at 206 Vermilion Ave.

The workshop starts at 6:30pm and runs until 8:30pm.

People are encouraged to come by early and take advantage of the outdoor burn display where an old inefficient wood stove is compared to the technology of a new stove.

More information about the work shop as well as the participating retailers can be found on the RDOS website at www.rdos.bc.ca (click Departments - Air Quality - Wood Heating).
