Earth Week in Summerland

4/12/2012

Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide but in Summerland they celebrate Earth Week.

The event runs from April 15th to 22nd with a variety of family fun activities planned for each day.

A dedicated group of volunteers plan, organize and run the event.

The eight day long event represents one of Canada's largest Earth Week celebrations per capita.

Food sustainability is one focus of the 2012 Earth Week events and will be showcased on the 15th at a gardening workshop at Grasslands Nursery.

The award winning documentary film The Future of Food will be shown at the Centre Stage Theatre on April 16th.

A second documentary will be screened called The Silent Invasion on April 19th.

Friday April 20th is alternative transportation day and people are encouraged to walk, run, bike or skate their way to the event.

The week will be capped off with a tree and shrub planting at Prairie Creek within the Dale Meadows Sports Complex on Sunday April 22nd.

A full list of all events and activities can be found on the District of Summerland's website.
