Peachfest Another Huge Success
8/15/2012
It was another successful year for Peachfest as it celebrated it's 65th year.
Don Kendall, Peachfest President thinks this year's success is due to all the volunteers and sponsors in the community.
"We're really, really pleased with the attendance this year. We think we probably had around 70,000 people take part in all of the Peach Festival events. Which includes the parade, sandcastles and square dancing, and the concerts and the midway. We believe it's the biggest crowd we've ever attracted"
He estimates that more than 7,000 people came out to watch performance headliners 54-40.
Kendall adds that the economic spinoff of the festival is enormous.
"We don't know a dollar figure but I've talked with several people in the hospitality business and they've said it is a vitally important week for them. I actually spoke with two hoteliers and they tell me it's bigger than the August long weekend for them. So that gives you a pretty good idea how important it is for the Penticton economy"
No major incidents have been reported from the event, thanks largely in part to lack of beer gardens and focus on family fun.
