Penticton Mayor and Chair of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen Dan Ashton has thrown his hat into the political ring and says he will be seeking the Penticton Liberal Seat.

Four residents have announced their intentions to seek the seat including Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino, former school trustee Connie Denesiuk and businessman Mark Ziebarth.

Ashton says he's willing to pay the city up to $35,000 to cover a by-election cost should he be elected as an MLA.

Ashton has served on city council since 1999 and has been mayor for the past four years.

The Penticton riding Liberal organization will hold their nomination meet on October 20th.

Penticton MLA Bill Barisoff announced his retirement this summer leaving the seat vacant.
