Summerland Mayor Heads to UBCM
9/24/2012
Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino is in Victoria this week at the Union of BC Municipalities convention.
She hopes to talk with the agricultural minister about Summerland's future.
"We need to know how to move forward in our strategic planning as far as growth of the town. As you know we try to grow from the core of the town out so we're just trying to get how they want us to proceed forward. We have so much agricultural land that's right in the centre of town."
Perrino says she will also be discussing transit plans for the district and surrounding area.
"We are able to get a meeting with some of the officials to talk more about transit coming through Summerland and taking up to the north and of course down to Penticton."
The UBCM will run from September 24th until the 28th with mayors from around the province in attendance.
More than 200 resolutions are up for debate at the convention, including decriminalizing marijuana, banning shark fins and cleaning up tsunami debris.
