Update: Cawston Blaze Fueled by Strong Winds
A wildfire kept fire fighters busy over night near Cawston just south of Keremeos.
Fire Information officer Fionna Tollovsen says initial reports put the grass fire at 35 hectares because winds carried smoke across the area.
"Last night we sent personal and air tankers and this morning we are on site again and we have 24 fire fighters as well as two helicopters on site. We currently estimate the fire to be 16 hectares."
Tollovsen says the fire is still not contained but they hope to get it under control by this afternoon.
There have been no evacuations issued and currently no homes or building are threatened.
Tollovsen adds that they believe the blaze is human caused as there have been no reports of lightning in the area.
