Burning Ban Lifted in the Okanagan

10/23/2012

The Kamloops Fire Centre has lifted all fire restrictions and open fires are now permitted within the entire Okanagan.

Grass fires and burning barrels are allowed in the area but anyone considering doing a large burn will need to comply with the Ministry of Environment's open burn regulations.

The fire rating throughout most of the South Okanagan is low there are still a few areas that are considered moderate for fire danger.

The public can now burn any material larger than a half metre high by a half metre wide, burn stubble or grass, and may use fireworks or burning barrels of any size or description.

The Fire Centre reminds people that if they do see a wildfire it should be reported by calling *5555 on your cellphone or toll free at 1-800-663-5555.
