The Snow is Falling on Local Ski Resorts

10/25/2012

The snow has begun to fall all around Penticton and no one is happier about the white stuff than the local ski hills.

James Shalman with Apex Mountain says while they're still far from opening day the excitement is beginning to grow.

"It's really exciting and it's awesome to see a winter wonderland again up here. We've had about 19 centimetres in the past three days and it just keeps on falling. It's adding up a lot."

Opening day for Apex Mountain is not expected until December 1st but Shalman says last winter they opened a week early because of a big dump over the Remembrance Day long weekend.

Shalman adds that while staff are preparing for the upcoming season they are still a long way off from opening day.

"This is pretty typical though for this time of the year we're not going to get that excited yet because we do need roughly around 100 centimetres to get things going up here."

The Gun Barrel Saloon and Restaurant up at Apex is under new ownership and has a brand new menu for this season and Shalman says booking for Christmas parties are already filling up.
