MLA Travel Expenses Released

11/1/2012

The government has released MLA travel expenses for the first time ever, after a scathing report by Auditor General John Doyle, who said the legislature's financial books were such a mess he couldn't be sure if money was being properly spent.

The MLA who spent the most on travel was New Democrat Robin Austin, with $53,000 worth of expenses.

He was followed by Penticton Liberal and speaker of the house Bill Barisoff, whose expenses were $46,000.

Okanagan Similkameen MLA John Slater spent $20,000 on expenses.

Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thompson spent about $44,000, Okanagan-Westside's Ben Stewart spent $22,000 and Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick spent $18,000.

That money is in addition to their ministerial travel budgets.

The report covers only the first six months of the fiscal year
